City of Barberton Road Program

The 2021 Road Repaving list has been given to the City Council and the City is requesting approval for the contractors. On May 17, 2021, the Streets Committee was given legislation requests that would allow the City to hire 2 different contractors to perform the construction on chosen roads around town. The request came out of my committee and will be read on the floor for a vote on May 24, 2021.

The two construction companies chosen for the projects are Perrin Asphalt Company and Specialized Construction. These companies are the best and or lowest bidders that applied using a public sealed bid process.

The road program is separated into two projects this year. The first being a normal “mil and fill” of 12 roads which Perrin Company will be completing for an estimated $698,006.00. Specialized Construction will be preforming what is known as “chip-n-seal” with “Fog Seal” on an additional 9 roads for an estimated $305,702.50. Fog Seal is a tack spray on the top of the chip-n-seal.

Start dates of the construction have not been provided but I would expect construction to start in late May to Early June sometime. The 2021 project has been increased approximately 2x and includes 9 lane miles of reconstruction.

  1. Ron Lee says:

I’d surely like to see Ries Street redone. It is just patch after patch. The street gets a lot of traffic and should be attended to accordingly

  2. Marsha Watson says:

When on earth is Fairmont north gonna get paved? The patches have patches! Been asking for years.

    • Howe says:

FRANKLIN AVE BETWEEN 5TH AND 6TH STREET NEEDS FIXED VERY SOON. WE BOUGHT AND MOVED IN 5 YEARS 2 MONTHS AGO. WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE REPAVED THEN.. NOTHING YET???? SO WHEN WILL THIS POT HOLES BE FIXED?? I AM STARTING TO WISH WE NEVER WOULD OF MOVED TO BARBERTON!!!

  3. This is nonsense says:

We are they paying for a lot to be paved? What a waste of funds, when that could go to another pothole ridden road to be paved! 🙄

  4. Charles nicholas says:

Why not do some of the main streets like Wooster rd west and parts of Wooster TD north

    • Great question! There is a main road list as well for this year. This list is just the residential roads that have been selected. Wooster is on the list in the near future along with Norton Ave, and parts of State. Wooster from State St north is scheduled for this year. I will see if I can compile these roads as well and publish them.

  5. ALAMB says:

When is 17th ST NW (from hopocan all the way down to Wooster rd w) getting done the pot holes are horrible

  6. Robert says:

I want to know why bell is on the repaving list and the chip-n-seal list

  7. Maryssa says:

I believe that the side roads off of grand Avenue need to get fixed those streets are way over due

    • If I could “like” this comment, I would!!! I have submitted the roads up that way many times. Now that we have a chip n seal program in place, we could really help out many of the side roads like those you mentioned.

  8. Anita Bray says:

Meadow Court, Conrad, and Eltel are terrible. Plus, the easement that faces Conrad park is really bad there is 3 of us that have driveways on to it. Snow removal drivers messed up the bottom of my conceret driveway.

  9. Joe Paridon says:

Nothing wrong with Y.M.C.A. aka orange lot it doesn’t need repaved. Wooster road from 5th to 25th should be on that list don’t anybody from the city drive on Wooster rd.west.

  10. Cathy Pokopac says:

Third street northeast between East Hopocan and East Cassel has needed to be properly repaved forever. It has been patched year after year and during the winter it gets chewed up by the snow plows. It is terrible.
