It is no secret that I am an advocate for hunting and conservation. This year I would like to try something a little different and introduce new hunters to the possibilities that Ohio has to offer. As generations of hunters and anglers age out of being able to participate, the younger generation is missing out on opportunities to partake in a tradition that is rewarding, therapeutic, and ultimately a memorable experience.
This year, I have started a small program that will accept a handful of people wanting to learn how to hunt whitetail deer on public land. The program will include multiple guided trips to public land to scout potential areas for a successful hunt as well as provide education on whitetail habitat and behavior. Participants will learn where and how to hunt safely using public land readily available to all Ohio residents.
Any participants that partake in the majority of the scouting trips, will be offered a reimbursement scholarship for the hunter safety course that is required to hunt solo. If you are unsure about hunting and depending on the hunter’s availability, we may be able to pair up veteran hunters with new hunters using an apprenticeship hunting license.
Spots are very limited for the 2021 hunting season. Participants must be able to hike a minimum of 5 miles daily through hilly terrain. If you just wish to learn how to scout for hunting locations, you are welcome to join in. Us the form below to be given access to the public Facebook group as well as receive updates about the program.
