Every Day is A Great Day

It’s been a year, it’s been too long,
My heart still aches when I hear the song.
The sound of silence, the emptiness of thought,
I find myself talking; your voice is what’s sought.

Mom’s okay, but she’s not the same,
She’s a strong woman, but carries the pain.
Us kids are fine; we know you are here,
In spirit, in lessons, and your multicolored beard.

I know life is short, and it will happen to me,
But until that day comes, I hope you can see:
A job well; you showed us the way,
And the lessons you taught us still guide us each day.

You were a great father, steady and true,
And so much of who I am came from you.
Your lessons were heard, and I’ll carry them on,
Even through moments when the road feels long.

I’ll keep moving forward, whatever may come,
With your voice in my heart and your work never done.
And no matter the sorrow, no matter the gray,
I’ll remember your words:

EVERY DAY IS A GREAT DAY
